Just across the Arakawa River lies Tokyo: A Convenient and Livable City, ‘Kawaguchi’

It is surrounded by Saitama City and Koshigaya City to the north, Warabi City and Toda City to the west, Soka City to the east, and Tokyo’s Kita Ward to the south, separated by the Arakawa River.

Originally a city that grew from industries such as foundry work and tree nurseries during the Edo period, Kawaguchi has developed into a residential city, serving as a commuter town for Tokyo. Kawaguchi: A City with Excellent Access to Central Tokyo by Train or Car

Kawaguchi City’s railway system includes eight stations: JR Keihin-Tohoku Line’s ‘Kawaguchi Station’ and ‘Nishi-Kawaguchi Station’, JR Musashino Line’s ‘Higashi-Kawaguchi Station’, and Saitama Rapid Railway’s ‘Kawaguchi-Motogo’, ‘Minami-Hatogaya’, ‘Hatogaya’, ‘Shin-Ai-Sugi’, and ‘Tozuka-Angyo’ stations.
From Kawaguchi Station, it takes just 24 minutes to reach Tokyo Station and 20 minutes to Omiya Station, making it an extremely convenient area for commuting.
However, it is unfortunate that the Shonan-Shinjuku Line and Ueno-Tokyo Line, part of the Utsunomiya Line and Takasaki Line, do not stop at Kawaguchi or Nishi-Kawaguchi stations. That said, Kawaguchi City is negotiating with JR East to address this issue, so we can look forward to future improvements.

As for road transportation, National Route 122 runs through the center of Kawaguchi, serving as an important thoroughfare connecting Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture. Many vehicles pass through this route, and with easy access to the Shuto Expressway, Kawaguchi also offers outstanding convenience for car commuters.

  • It only takes about 30 minutes by train from Kawaguchi Station to Tokyo Station or Shinjuku, so you can easily travel into Tokyo.

  • The Shonan Shinjuku Line and Ueno Tokyo Line do not stop at Kawaguchi Station or Nishi-Kawaguchi Station, so the only trains that can be used are the Keihin Tohoku Line. The Saitama Rapid Railway Line fares are higher than other lines.
